Events World Cup

A World Cup pool with friends or coworkers usually lives in a messy group chat or a spreadsheet nobody trusts, with manual scoring and arguments about who picked what.

Launch Events World Cup

What it does

Pick the entire 2026 World Cup, lock your bracket before kickoff, then track live scores, pick verdicts, and the leaderboard all tournament long.

Currently

Live as a public demo at events-worldcup-demo.vercel.app with sample players, hosted in its own repo and Vercel project separate from k8mak.com. The real pool is private. You order the groups, choose advancing teams, lock in, and then watch results score themselves with round-weighted points, a native match timeline, team pages, and pool chat.

How I built it

I built this in one night before the tournament started, for a private pool of about twenty-five players, my wife Zoë's coworkers, who wanted a simple and trustworthy place to run their bracket. The scoring is round-weighted so a correct Final pick is worth far more than a group-stage call, and a human admin always beats the API, because a real person's word on a result should override whatever a data feed says. The decision I am proudest of is treating the quality bar as a hiring bar: this pool is also a live work sample in front of a specific audience, so reliability, design, and craft all got the attention I would give a client. The public version here runs in demo mode with sample players so the real pool stays private.
