What I collect, and what I do with it

Last updated August 30, 2026

This is a plain-language summary of how k8mak.com handles your data. The short version: I collect as little as I can, I keep your data on your own device wherever the tool allows it, and I never sell it. Here is the detail.

When you contact me

The contact form takes your name (optional), email, and message, and sends them to me as an email. Those details are not saved to a database. They live in my inbox, the same as any email you would send me. I use your email only to reply. The form is rate-limited to cut down on spam and abuse.

When you sign up for updates

If you give me your email to hear about new writing or work, I store that email so I can reach you. Your IP address is stored only as a one-way hash (a scrambled value that cannot be turned back into your real address), used to spot abuse. You can ask me to remove your email at any time.

The apps and tools on this site

Many of the small tools here are local-first: your data (saved lists, collections, progress, notes) lives in your own browser and never reaches a server unless you choose to sign in or submit something. Clearing your browser storage removes it.

A few tools do store what you send, so they can work:

  • Plant-watering reminders store your email and growing zone so I can send the reminder you asked for. Every reminder includes a one-click unsubscribe.
  • Feedback and story-submission tools store what you type, plus an optional email if you add one.
  • If you sign in (an optional Google sign-in exists on a couple of apps, such as the Pokemon and packing tools), your email and the collections you save are stored and tied to your account, so they sync across your own devices. Your data is scoped to you and is not shared with other users.

Analytics and cookies

I use privacy-conscious analytics (Vercel Analytics, and Google Analytics when it is enabled) to see which pages and tools are useful. These record aggregate events and simple labels, keyed on a server-side identifier, never on your name or email. I do not use them for advertising. Some of the apps honor Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track and give you an in-app opt-out.

Who else touches your data

A small set of services process data on my behalf: Resend delivers email from the contact form and signups, Vercel hosts the site and provides analytics, Supabase is the database behind the tools that save data, and Google provides the optional sign-in and analytics. I do not sell your data to anyone.

Keeping and deleting your data

I keep data only as long as it is useful for the reason you gave it to me. You can ask to see a copy of what I hold about you, or ask me to delete it, and I will. The fastest way is through the contact page, or email me at kate@k8mak.com. Tell me which email or which tool it relates to so I can find it.

Questions

If anything here is unclear, or you want to know exactly what I have about you, just ask. I would rather answer than have you wonder.
