Situation

Zendesk's Custom Objects v1 was API-only, limiting adoption to developer-heavy customers. Enterprise accounts needed flexible data modeling but the platform couldn't support it without a full rebuild.

Approach

Led the strategy and shipped Custom Objects v2 from scratch -- Admin schema builder, record layouts, bulk CRUD, and triggers beyond tickets. Made the tough call to pause new features for 9 months to clear Custom Fields tech debt first, unlocking the foundation for everything that followed.

Impact

240-customer beta, 55 enterprise accounts ($20M ARR) migrated with low friction. After the tech debt refactor, new features shipped in less than half the time. Managed 18 engineers across 3 teams.
