6 in apart, 12–18 in between rows. Plant in a deep trench or dibble holes and hill soil up to blanch the white shanks.
Deep, fertile, well-draining soil rich in organic matter; pH 6.0–7.0. Loose soil makes blanching and harvest easier.
Consistent 1 in/week. Leeks have shallow roots and bolt or split under drought stress, so never let them dry out fully.
