Rich, deep soil loaded with compost; pH 6.0–6.8.
Deep 1–2 in/week, more in heat. Water the soil, not the leaves.

Direct sow in warm soil in hills. Limit each vine to a few fruit for larger pumpkins. Harvest when the rind hardens and color is full; leave a few inches of stem and cure in the sun.
Good with Corn, Bush bean, Nasturtium, Marigold. Keep apart from Potato.
